IdrA Logo Reflection

About a year ago I had the pleasure of working with Greg ‘IrdA’ Fields on his solo brand logo.  He was one of the most responsive and engaging clients I’ve had the pleasure of working with.  The logo processes went smoothly. Though a bit on the long side, we both ensured IrdA was getting a logo that would hit all his key branding goals.

Collectable Supplies Coupon

collectible_supplies_discount_04I’ve been privileges enough to do some work for Collectible Supplies from time to time.  This was a very fun and challenging coupon to design, but I feel like in the end the work paid off!  Still, I feel like I could have done a better job with the message text.

Semper Filly

My good friend, and fellow Marine is still active and being deployed around the world.  He has a fantastic family and two wonderful kids.  I thought it would be nice to draw them each something they would like in honor of their sacrificing time with their devoted father.

The young guy received a spider-man image, and for the young lady who quite enjoys My Little Pony:  Friendship is Magic, I illustrated this poster that draws inspiration from the Eagle Globe and Anchor.

This was quite different content than I usually work on, so it was very fun and enjoyable.  Something about drawing really cute and fun things makes you smile more while you’re working.

Thanks to all the service members and their families that sacrifice so much more daily than most of us can ever imagine.  – Joshua Keyes

Spider-Man Hero Inspiration

spiderdudeThis Spider-Man image was inspired by a good friend’s son who’s favorite comic hero is Spider-Man. As an active duty Marine my friend often finds himself on deployments around the world for months at a time. I thought it might be nice to illustrate a poster to boost his little one’s morale a bit.

Heroes in stories, comic books, and video games are sources that allow us as individuals to challenge our own understanding of who we are and how we see the world around us.  These fictional characters are infused with mores, strengths, and weaknesses that play out in dramatized situations.  These situations aren’t just for our entertainment, but I believe they can be viewed as sandbox simulations for us to consider our own values and daily lives in the much simpler and safe environment – our imagination.

Heroes may be cornerstones in our collective conscious but I believe they inspire us to be real heroes.  The peace officer, the fire fighter, the warrior, the mother, and the best friend that swoops in with a call or text at just the right time are real heroes in our lives.   We may not all have super powers, but we do all have the power to make a superior impact on each others lives daily.

Cheerful–Grubby Melting Face

Though I still am quite the nomad currently, I’m very happy to be able to take a moment of respite from time to time.  Today I’m thankful for my laptop, Wacom tablet, and being blessed with the opportunity to watch Grubby 2-0 incumbent Polt at Dreamhack 2013. Way to go Grubby, you’ve brightened yet another fan’s day!

Envelope Art–Step Up

Its was a while ago that I illustrated this on an envelope and sent it out to my wife while she was away for a on a challenging trip.  I ran across it and thought it might be fun to share.  I’m currently in a life transition, moving across country. This image reminds me that no matter where I step next in life, I better make it a point to step up to the challenge, and ROFL STOMP THAT SHIZZZ!

Peace be with you!

Yeah Yeah, But Did You See That Elevator?

Drowning.  That’s what it feels like most of the time I’ve been developing my Indie project, Mecromage.  I’ve averaged about 12 hours a day on this week alone.  Crafting story concepts, game mechanics, graphics assets, animated sprites, and 2d techniques I’ve done my part to push the first level of the game to about 70% complete.  But really, at the end of the week, all I can think about is how fun the elevator challenge was, and how that success is what helps me to rise to the overwhelming challenges I will dive into yet again tomorrow.
